The Roles of Flower Girls and Ring Bearers
Similar to the primary bridal party roles like Groomsmen and Bridesmaids, younger members of the bridal party also hold special significance. Couples often choose nieces, nephews, or close friends’ children to participate in the wedding ceremony. If the couple has children of their own, it’s a wonderful way to involve them in the celebration.
Ring Bearers
Ring Bearers are tasked with carrying the wedding rings down the aisle for the ceremony. They typically walk ahead of the Flower Girl or may accompany her down the aisle. The rings are usually presented on a pillow or in a box. We have seen some Ring Bearers even walk down with a special briefcase, like they are security guards! If your Ring Bearer is very young, you might opt to use fake rings, with the Best Man keeping the real ones safe. Either way, it can be very sweet seeing a little one coming down the aisle.
Flower Girls & Page Boys
The Flower Girl’s role is one of the most charming parts of a wedding. She often scatters petals along the aisle, setting the stage for the Bride’s entrance. Alongside the bridal party, the Flower Girl draws the attention of the guests to the Bride, the centrepiece of the event. The flowers she scatters also add a beautiful touch to photos and videos, creating a magical atmosphere for the wedding.
Traditionally, Page Boys assist in carrying the Bride’s train, ensuring it stays untangled and off the ground. Because this requires some care, Page Boys are usually older than Ring Bearers. Alternatively, Page Boys may escort the Flower Girls, while the Bridesmaids manage the Bride’s train.
Ushers
Ushers ensure that guests are seated and comfortable, which is especially helpful for larger weddings. This role can be more challenging, so it’s better suited to older children, such as cousins or brothers. Ushers may also distribute items like order of service booklets, bubbles, or confetti for after the ceremony.
